Matt is a bit of nerd, OK, he is a huge nerd, so he calculated some of the statistics about his hike, just usual things but it is all kind of interesting information.
As you can see below he averaged 20.5 miles per day through out the hike and 21.8 miles per day if you discount zero days. He averaged shy of 150 miles a week and went nearly one quarter of the trail without taking a rest day; covering 566 miles in 26 days.
Below you can see that his average miles per day remained consistently between 20 and 22 but the actual daily miles varied widely, ranging from 2.8 miles on his first day on the trail to over 40 miles in Shenandoah National Park.
matt varied drastically in the amount of miles He hiked on any given day but the bulk of them seemed to be between 20 and 30 miles. Many of the shorter days came as resupply days.

Matt tended to stay in shelters in the evenings, in fact he spent nearly 70% of my nights in them, he almost never used his tarp and spent one night in a tent when Hannah was hiking with him. The other he mentions were two nights that didn’t really fall into any other category. One was the night he spent in the Gazebo at the Homeplace Restaurant in VA and the other was the pavillion in Port Clinton, PA.
If you can think of any other statistics or information that would be of interest let us know, we have a lot info about the hike.
