AT Through Hike

Matt on Katahdin at the end of the Appalachian TrailIn the spring of 2008 Matt left Houghton and headed to northern Georgia to pursue a long standing dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail.  Over the next 106 days and 2,200 miles he made many friends, had indescribable adventures and saw scenery he will never forget. He crossed 14 states on his journey from Springer Mountain to Mount Katahdin in Maine walked a near complete transect of the United States.

They say no one hikes the AT and comes out the same and Matt was no exception.  He kept a journal everyday to highlight his adventures and track his progress.  You can find the journal in the navigation bar at the top of the page under the heading Appalachian Trail or simply click HERE.

He also took hundreds of photos which you can find HERE.

Matt went fairly light on his hike and moved pretty quickly up the trail. You can see the gear he used HERE, as well some STATS and an interactive MAP.

We have another big hike, the Pacific Crest Trail,  on the site as well that you might be interested in.

We hope you like the information and journal about Matt’s hike. If you have questions or if there is some info you would like to see here please drop us a line.
